The police work is characterized by intense physical and mental demands that, combined, contribute to several health problems characteristic of this profession, including the development of musculoskeletal alterations. Therefore, the objective was to identify the possible relationships between exposure to psychosocial risk factors at work and the development of musculoskeletal dysfunctions. The research involved 103 military police officers, 15 women (14.56%) and 88 men (85.44%), with an average age of 42.15 years and (SD = 7.14) who responded to the Psychosocial Stressors Assessment Scale in the Work Context and the Brazilian version of the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. The results indicated that 73.66% of the participants presented at least two musculoskeletal symptoms and 58.13% took time off from work; it should be noted that the most common symptoms were related to the upper body and knees. Furthermore, it was identified that most of the dimensions related to work stressors correlated positively with the presence of musculoskeletal symptoms; and that the pressure of the degree of responsibility and the lack of social support showed negative correlations with seeking specialized care. The results suggest that the intense physical demands of police work and factors related to the work environment interact negatively on the health of these citizen-workers, making it essential to look at the physical and psychosocial conditions in the context of public safety work , as well as the prevention of musculoskeletal dysfunctions.
