Abstract

The study aimed to understand the attitudes of police supervisors of the Federal District Military Police, in relation to higher education for low rank police officers. 44 supervisors participated in the research and an instrument was used for measuring attitudes regarding to higher education as a promoter of professional opportunities, as a tool for improving military police work and as a relevant item for the selection of new police officers, as well as to the development of low rank officers. The study used Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to analyze the collected data. The supervisors' positive attitude towards higher education for low rank officers was evidenced, seen as a mechanism for the effective improvement of work by these professionals to society, and as an instrument for improving institutional relations with communities, as well as for identifying and solving crime and disorder problems that may be affecting them. Higher education is positively perceived as an adequate requirement for entry in the police corporation.
